CNS Inpatient Unit

 

The CNS Neurosurgery Outreach Nurse reports to the Manager of CNS and works with neurosurgery patients and families, bedside nursing staff and the interdisciplinary team to directly and indirectly care for patients with highly complex needs in selected patient populations.  In this role, you will integrate nursing skills and knowledge within a broad scope of advanced nursing practice and assume a leadership role in influencing clinical nursing practice and the provision of care. You will integrate research into practice, provide comprehensive health care to the neurosurgical patient population as a member of the health care team, and serve as the contact person for non-neurosurgical centres in the catchment of LHSC, as well as specific patient populations.

 

Temporary Full-Time

 

Rate of Pay:                           $46.27 per hour - $66.89 per hour

 

Hours of Work:                       37.5 hours per week

 

Duration:                                 up to November 2026

Qualifications

 
  • Current Certificate of General Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
  • Master's degree in nursing
  • Current BLS for Healthcare Providers course: BLS-HCP(C)
  • Minimum five (5) years recent nursing experience with neuroscience population
  • ACLS preferred
  • Membership in Canadian Association of Neuroscience Nurses (CANN) preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to carry out relevant clinical practice skills
  • Demonstrated competency in basic computer skills (word processing, use of internet resources, PowerPoint)
  • Demonstrated use of theory and research/evidence-based outcomes within own practice
  • Demonstrated skills in patient teaching and assessment including nursing knowledge base
  • Thorough understanding and commitment to Patient and Family Centred Care principles and ability to use in practice
  • Ability to recognize own feelings, express them fully and constructively manage own feelings in challenging and emotionally charged situations
  • Ability to express ideas clearly, confidently & directly & work through conflicts and differences in a respectful way
  • Ability to understand the feelings, concerns and needs of other people, demonstrate care and interest towards them and establish and maintain productive relationships
  • Ability to stay effective and resilient when dealing with adverse circumstances and multiple demands
  • Ability to demonstrate an optimistic disposition toward new experiences and change in general
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC's Vision, Purpose, and Values
