Department Description

 


We are currently searching for Occupational Therapy Externs to support our dynamic team. The Occupational Therapy Clinical Extern, under the direction of the Occupational Therapist assists with providing designated aspects of Occupational Therapy patient care and non-patient care, this may include general programming, functional mobility and ADL training, as well as provision of Equipment as assigned. This individual provides support to the Occupational Therapist working on inpatient units.

Rate of Pay:  $20.60 per hour

Temporary Part time 

Qualifications

 
  • Occupational Therapy Students enrolled in their 1st or 2nd year of an entry-level-to practice degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Demonstrated evidence of excellent academic standing
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position
  • Excellent communication abilities and interpersonal skills to interact positively and effectively with patients, staff and the general public
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple and changing tasks that require attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a team
  • Commitment to patient/family centered care with a service-oriented attitude
  • Ability to problem solve and demonstrate initiative within appropriate scope of practice
  • Knowledge of patient requirements with respect to prescribed diets/menus
  • Demonstrated knowledge of protocol to escalate concerns
  • Must be self-directed and show initiative
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency with Automated Clinical Systems
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC?s Vision, Purpose and Values
  •  Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis

  1. Proof of enrollment for attending full time Physiotherapy education at an accredited program in their 1st, 2nd year of an accredited physiotherapy program

Immunization Requirements:

  • Successful candidates will be required to complete a health review which includes providing vaccination records or proof of immunity against Measles, Mumps, Rubella and Varicella (Chicken Pox). In addition, candidates will need to provide documentation of Tuberculosis Skin testing and a completed COVID vaccine series (two vaccines).
