Job Description

The Psychologist in this role with provided clinical assessment and intervention for children and adolescents with cancer and their families, as well as childhood cancer survivors. They will also provide service to acute medical inpatients with a variety of medical conditions/injuries, who are experiencing psychological symptoms and impairments in their functioning that are secondary to, or interfering with, their medical illness or its treatments and sequela. As part of this role, they will also provide end-of-life, palliative and bereavement care. The role includes consultation with medical and other health professionals disciplines around case conceptualization and treatment planning using a biopsychosocial model of care, and in educating and supporting our front line staff in implementing behavioral and rehabilitative interventions.
The Psychologist in this position will collaborate with a diverse interprofessional team, and with the provincial Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario (POGO) in psycho-social research and program development initiatives and education.

The psychologist would also be resident supervisor in the London Clinical Psychology Residency Consortium in the Child/Adolescent and Health/ Rehabilitation Tracks. It is also expected that the successful candidate for the position would apply for faculty position in the Department of Paediatrics in the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry at Western University, the Department of Psychology at Western University, and at the Lawson Health Research Institute.

Regular Full-Time

Rate of Pay:               $ 58.09 per hour - $ 72.62 per hour

Hours of Work:           37.5 hours per week

Qualifications:
  • Doctoral degree in Psychology
  • Registration (or eligibility for registration) with the College of Psychologists of Ontario
  • Minimum two (2) years of recent relevant experience 
  • Experience in working in a Children’s Hospital
  • Authorized (or eligibility to be authorized) to provide Clinical Psychology and Health Psychology services
  • Authorized (or eligibility to be authorized) to work with Children and Adolescents
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g., Mental Health Act, PHIPA, HCCA)
  • Demonstrated advanced diagnostic and psychotherapy skills
  • Demonstrated ability in working with interprofessional health care teams
  • Expertise in Psychological assessment and evaluation, Biopsychosocial case conceptualization and Intervention and consultation
  • Proven advanced ability to apply ethics, standards and jurisprudence
  • Demonstrated advanced ability to establish effective interpersonal relationships
  • Demonstrated advanced verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated flexibility and a commitment to working within an academic environment
  • Demonstrated excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks effectively
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC

Immunization Requirements:

  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/ Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis.
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step) and COVID vaccine series.
