LHSCRI is seeking an experienced and motivated research individual for the role of Research Associate I with the Department of Oncology at Victoria Hospital. This individual will be responsible for consulting with principal investigators and their study teams on study portfolio management, protocol writing and development, grant writing, statistical and data analysis needs, and presenting findings to relevant stakeholders.

 

Rate of Pay: $32.66 - $40.83

Hours of Work: Full Time- 37.5 hours per week 

Duration: Temporary (1 year, potentially renewable)

Approximately 2,900 Nursing, Health and other students ranging from secondary school to university graduate level programs receive training at LHSC every year. As an employee of LHSC, you will be expected to engage in role-related teaching, professional development, and research activities in addition to standard position duties and responsibilities. 

Duties & Responsibilities 

  • Meeting with clinicians to discuss their project needs for their clinical research
  • Lead development and pre-testing of data collection platforms (e.g. REDCap)
  • Perform biostatistics and data analysis for various research projects
  • Support the submission of ethics approval applications, amendments, renewals and reports
  • Perform site training and orientations including acting as the point-of-contact for data collection and general troubleshooting
  • Manages the onboarding and offboarding process for staff, scientists, and trainees including development and maintenance of SOPs 
  • Support protocol development in coordination with the team
  • Support the writing, submission and reporting for grants including project descriptions and resource allocation, experience with research budgets considered an asset
  • Support the development and completion of study related agreements via institutional contracts and legal departments
  • Maintains up-to-date records of research projects and deliverables within a metrics database (performs data entry, data quality assurance and audit activities as required
  • Manage corporate email inbox and respond directly to email inquiries from staff, scientists, and researchers, either directly or by referring to the appropriate source of information as required
  • Coordinates project and grant intake and amendments; maintains electronic filing system for tracking
  • Assists with statistical and data analysis for various studies as requested 
  • Assists with scientific manuscript writing, editing and proof reading as well as presentation of study results
  • Proofreads and edits a variety of communication products including newsletters, social media, and e-bulletins
  • Develop and maintain materials for internal and external communication (e.g. newsletters, website content) in coordination with the communication specialist
  • Preparing, distributing and assisting with DSMB documents
  • Handling confidential documents
  • Other duties as it pertains to the role

Qualifications

 
  • MSc in quantitative or health related discipline required, PhD preferred
  • Biostatistics or epidemiology training would be recommended
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in epidemiology, protocol development, preparation of manuscripts and data presentation
  • Comprehensive knowledge of statistical analyses for clinical research 
  • Experience with prioritizing and management of multiple and competing concurrent tasks
  • Ability to maintain strict confidence as required for the role
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills (i.e. relationship development and management) including the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrated ability to perform data capture, management and retrieval using automated or manual information systems
  • Experience working with a diverse team and building public health, research, academic, institutional or professional networks
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and apply decision-making skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
