Emergency - Adult VH

The Emergency Department focuses on various sub-specialties within emergency care complete with an electronic Patient Tracking System. To provide high quality of nursing care to patients and their families utilizing the nursing process, following established standards of practice both within the hospital and the profession. The Emergency Department is committed to excellent patient-focused emergency care.  Nurses utilize the nursing process and established best practice standards as they assess and care of patients presenting with a variety of needs and document their findings electronically.

Regular Full-Time

Hours of work: 37.5 hours pwer week

Rate of Pay:                  $37.10 per hour - $37.77 per hour

Qualifications

 
  • Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Proof of current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers course (BCLS-HCP)
  • Minimum two (2) years recent related acute nursing experience in one or more of the following: Emergency Department or Medicine or Surgical Care
  • Demonstrated knowledge and competence in Mental Health Nursing
  • Preferred  computer proficiency with Cerner systems
  • Cardiac monitoring experience - monitoring of rhythm strips.
  • ECG certification
  • Well developed patient assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation skills
  • Demonstrated warmth, interest and empathy in interactions with patients and families
  • Demonstrated effective communication, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to function productively in a very demanding environment with a high patient turnover
  • Demonstrated ability to give and receive feedback in an open and constructive manner
  • Demonstrated skills in patient teaching
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and resolve conflict
  • Evidence of commitment to self-directed learning as demonstrated by the courses taken pertaining to emergency nursing
  • Ability to function autonomously and to adapt to rapidly changing situations and varying workloads
  • Demonstrated ability to practice effectively in a collaborative interdisciplinary team setting
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency with Automated Clinical Systems
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC?s Vision, Purpose, and Values
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
