Plasmapheresis

The Plasmapheresis Unit provides apheresis procedures for both Victoria and UH sites. Procedures performed include plasma exchange (adult and paediatrics), stem cell collection, RBC exchange, LDL apheresis, and leukapheresis. On call is also a requirement of this position.

The successful incumbent will report to the Manager of the Plasmapheresis Unit which is part of the LHSC Regional Renal Program.

Regular Part-Time

Rate of Pay:   $39.07 per hour - $56.00 per hour

Qualifications

 
  • Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Proof of a current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers course: BLS-HCP (C)
  • Certificate in Nephrology from the Canadian Nurses Association an asset
  • Four (4) years recent Surgical/Medical care nursing experience
  • Recent apheresis experience, including both adult and paediatric plasma exchange, stemcell collection, RBC exchange, and leukopheresis, is preferred
  • Recent Critical Care nursing experience preferred
  • Demonstrated expert venipuncture and IV insertion skills
  • Demonstrated excellent clinical skills
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills with the ability to establish priorities and adjust to changing patient needs
  • Previous experience in working as part of an interdisciplinary team
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with members of the multidisciplinary team and with patients and their families.
  • Demonstrated problem solving, critical thinking, decision-making, and conflict resolution skills with the ability to express ideas clearly, confidently and directly and work through conflicts/differences in a respectful way
  • Ability to recognize own feelings, express them fully and constructively manage own feelings in challenging and emotionally charged situations
  • Ability to express ideas clearly, confidently and directly and work through conflicts and differences in a respectful way
  • Ability to understand the feelings, concerns and needs of other people, demonstrate care and interest towards them and establish and maintain productive relationships
