Temporary Full Time
Salary Range: $44.67 - $57.90 /hour


Temporary employment anticipated to extend until July 03, 2026, subject to the availability of work.

The Forensic Psychiatry Program has adopted the Psychosocial Rehabilitation and Recovery Model as its overarching philosophical framework. This philosophy is built on a set of principles and values that emphasize client and family involvement in decision making, client choice, the provision of a range of services to meet treatment, rehabilitation and support needs, and a commitment from mental health services' professionals to achieving the best possible outcomes for clients based on their stated preferences, wishes, desires and life plans. As part of the forensic system, this must also be accomplished within the parameters defined by the Ontario Review Board within each patient's Disposition order. The Forensic Psychiatry Program is also highly invested in both education and research and has various connections with the University of Western Ontario.

Reporting to the forensic clinical manager, this individual will work with the Southwest Centre for Forensic Mental Health Care (SWC) and with the Developmental Services (DS) sector for engagement in situations where a person with developmental disabilities appears to be on a forensic trajectory. This includes assisting in the management of specific challenging situations to help the sector develop capacity to manage challenging individuals without criminalization. The engagement can include relationship building and community support liaison, education and training, and consultation on case specific scenarios. Support for management of case specific scenarios would be supported in the context of an interprofessional team approach that the engagement staff would access through the Forensic Outreach service.

Essential Qualifications

  • Registered with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers
  • Masters of Social Work
  • At least two (2) years related social work experience
  • Demonstrated skills, knowledge of and experience delivering a full range of high quality social work services to individuals with serious and persistent mental illness and their families
  • Experience working in a forensic setting with patients under the jurisdiction of the ORB
  • Excellent theoretical knowledge and practical skills in forensic psychiatry and community consultation
  • Excellent knowledge and experience in risk assessment and risk mitigation
  • Previous experience working with individuals with a developmental disability and their families
  • Skills and knowledge working with Adult Developmental Services Agencies, Developmental Services Ontario (DSO)
  • Familiar with MCSS Quality Assurance Measures and legislation such as The Service and Supports to promote Inclusion of a Person with a Developmental Disability Act
  • Familiarity with standardized risk assessment tools
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in applying the principles of psychosocial rehabilitation and the practices of case management, treatment and counselling, basic knowledge of major mental illness, substance abuse, Psychotropic medications and symptom management
  • Demonstrated skills in goal oriented, evidence-based practice approaches
  • Knowledge of Mental Health and Judicial systems and related legislation
  • Knowledge of behavioural assessment and intervention
  • Comprehensive knowledge of, and ability to mobilize community, health/mental health / developmental service agencies and social welfare resources
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and ability to function effectively within an inter-professional team
  • Highly developed collaborative, communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity, conflict resolution, facilitation and mediation skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability in conflict resolution and crisis intervention
  • Valid driver's license, adequate insurance and use of hospital vehicle required
  • Ability to travel across the Southwest Region and work in various settings/environments
  • Ability to foster collegial relationships within the program's interdisciplinary teams
  • Commitment to continuous learning and development
  • Proficient computer skills with a variety of programs
  • Knowledge of a Safety Culture in a Health Care Setting in compliance with the OHSA
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in French would be an asset

Immunization Requirements
  • Provide documentation you have received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine (primary series, boosters and/or XBB) OR one dose of XBB vaccine at least 14 days prior to the start date.
  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox)
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing
