Reporting to the Manager, the Clinic Assistant supports patient care by navigating and preparing patients for their clinical examination by the Health Care Professional (HCP). The HCP could be a Medical Doctor, a Nurse Practitioner functioning under a medical directive, or a Registered Nurse.

The Clinic Assistant will work in the Ambulatory Clinics, as well as in the procedure room for women having therapeutic abortions. The Clinic Assistant maintains patient flow through the clinic by preparing the room for each patient, taking vitals on all obstetrics (OB) patients, entering orders electronically into Cerner, assisting all team members, and ensuring the clinic is properly stocked.

Regular Part-Time

Hours of work:        22 hours per week (no guarantee)

Rate of Pay:           $26.45 per hour - $27.99 per hour

Qualifications

 
  • Successful completion of grade 12 education or equivalent acceptable to the hospital
  • Successful completion of one (1) year certificate as a Medical Office Assistant, Health Care Office Assistant or equivalent/advanced related education
  • One (1) year recent, related experience in an ambulatory setting or community outpatient clinic, OB/GYN clinic 
  • Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers course: BLS-HCP(C)
  • Demonstrated ability in taking vital signs, including blood pressure readings, urine sample collection and urine dip testing
  • Demonstrated computer and keyboarding skills including the use of Cerner applications, Microsoft Office, Internet and Outlook
  • Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral)
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately in a busy clinic environment with multiple demands
  • Demonstrated good judgment, problem solving and decision-making skills in order to ensure all the necessary information is collected as per individual circumstance
  • Demonstrated strong customer service focus with the ability to work within a team environment or independently
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain patient confidentiality
  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to patient and staff safety
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC's vision, purpose and values
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis

Immunization Requirements:  

  • Before beginning employment at LHSC, all new hires will be required to: 
  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/ Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis;  
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step);  
  • Provide proof of Health Canada-approved COVID-19 vaccination reflective of Ontario Health?s current definition of being fully vaccinated
