LHSC Radiation Safety Program

The Radiation Safety Specialist is accountable for providing technical guideance and leading radiation safety improvement initiatives city wide across all departments utilizing radiation emitting devices. Working in collaboration with the Radiation Safety Officer, the RSS will be responsibly for develooping, establishing and enforcing standards and measures to ensure that the highest-level radiation safety is provided for our staff and patients and that radiation safety best practices and regulatory requirements are being met. The Radiation Safety Specialist will advise on complex issues relating to Radiation Safety; both procedural and systems, as well as developing and maintaining procedural guidelines applicable to both London Health Sciences Centre and St. Joseph's Health Care.

Regular Full-Time

Rate of Pay:               $38.21 per hour - $47.76 per hour

Hours of Work:           37.5 hours per week

Qualifications

 
  • Successful completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Medical Physics
  • Minimum five (5) years of recent relevant experience
  • Demonstrated experience developing and interpreting complex regulatory documents
  • Expert knowledge of applicable legislation and acts (including Nuclear and Control Act, Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ontario Fire Code, Ontario Building Code, HARP Act)
  • Expert knowledge of Health Physics and Radiation Safety, nuclear physics principles, radiation detection instrumentation, dosimetry, effects of ionizing radiation
  • Demonstrated ability to balance multiple and competing priorities
  • Highly developed critical thinking skills with ability to conceptualize and develop solutions
  • Proficient Microsoft Office Suite skills including various databases
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC’s Vision, Purpose and Values
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis

Immunization Requirements:

  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/ Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis.
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step) and COVID vaccine series.
