Vascular Surgery Program, Victoria Hospital

London Health Sciences Center Vascular Surgery program serves as a regional referral center supporting London and the greater South West region, providing specialized vascular surgical care in both traditional open surgical procedures and endovascular surgeries. The Vascular Surgery 28 bed unit, is part of the In-Patient Surgical Services Program at Victoria Hospital. The program is supported by a dynamic collaborative, interdisciplinary team, in close association with Western University academic center.

The Nurse Practitioner is a self-directed advanced practice nurse prepared at the graduate and post-graduate level, who demonstrates a high level of autonomy working to scope, both independently and within a collaborative practice model. Using advanced assessment skills and a sound knowledge of clinical therapeutics, the NP demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge base in Vascular Surgery and exhibits a high degree of clinical competence in caring for Vascular Patient population.

The NP in the Vascular Surgery Program will report to the Director of Inpatient Surgery Services and will work collaboratively with members of the Vascular Surgery. The NP will interact daily with the interdisciplinary team to manage, direct and provide comprehensive care for a select patient population. The NP works with key stakeholders to provide advanced care that optimizes patient outcomes and enhances safety, effectiveness and accessibility. The NP in this program will engage in scholarly activities and advance knowledge by providing clinical leadership, identify opportunities for improving patient care, advancing best practices, promoting professional education and engaging in research.

With a focus on service excellence and patient safety, principal responsibilities include:

The Vascular Nurse practitioner will work within the Vascular Surgery unit within Surgical Services, providing care for adult elective and emergency vascular patients. Within the unit there are 4 level-two cardiac-monitoring beds to provide closer observation for medically acute vascular surgery patients. The NP will interact daily to manage, direct and provide comprehensive care for the Vascular patient population in an exciting collaborative interdisciplinary team environment; as well as lead and work collaboratively with other members of the healthcare team to ensure timely and comprehensive discharge planning for the select patient population.

All duties and responsibilities of the NP conform to professional standards and hospital guidelines.

Regular Full Time

Rate of Pay: $58.98 per hour - $71.85 per hour

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week

Qualifications

 
  • Successful completion of a Master’s Degree in Nursing
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses Extended Class (Adult or Primary Health Care in good standing)
  • Minimum of 5 years recent related experience with Vascular/Surgical Care adult patient population-preferred
  • Current member of the Nurse Practitioner's Association of Ontario (NPAO) or Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO)
  • Mandatory Current Professional Liability Protection
  • Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers course: BLS-HCP (C)
  • Demonstrated experience and leadership in clinical practice, education, program development and research
  • Expertise in functioning in an inter-disciplinary health care environment
  • Recent experience in Vascular /Surgical Care preferred
  • Ability to establish effective interpersonal relationships with colleagues and therapeutic relationships with patients and families
  • Expertise in critical thinking, clinical problem solving, negotiation and conflict resolution
  • Effective organizational, conceptual and leadership skills
  • Ability to provide project management?skills to promote?evidence-based strategies and initiatives for Vascular Surgery and ability to work in partnership with relevant LHSC staff and physicians 
  • Experience in/or understanding research, program development and evaluation
  • Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal relations and communication skills, both oral and written
  • Demonstrated excellence as a role model for clinical leadership
  • Demonstrated experience with clinical teaching in an academic environment
  • Advanced presentation skills including the application of adult learning principles, change theory and systems theory in a clinical environment
