Infection Prevention and Control
Reporting to the Manager, Infection Prevention Control Professional assists in moving the hospital toward an ultra-safe environment, a centre of excellence for infection control, and providing patients with a safe care experience and staff members with a safe care environment.
The Infection Control Professional has the leadership role in the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of infection control practices within the healthcare setting. This role functions as a consultant, role model, investigator, educator, and researcher and is responsible for recommending and implementing strategies based on best practice standards that are effective in reducing the acquisition/transmission of pathogens amongst patients, staff, and the community.
London Health Sciences Centre place significant importance on infection prevention and control practices. The Infection Control Professional is accountable to the public, including the consumer, community, healthcare worker, and the healthcare industry in terms of reducing morbidity, mortality, and cost to the entire healthcare system.
Temporary Part-Time
Rate of Pay: $46.79 to $58.48 per hour
Hours of Work: 22.5 hours per week
Duration: up to April 2026
Qualifications
As the ideal candidate, you have:
- Successful completion of a Bachelor's Degree (Healthcare Professional preferred)
- Certification with the Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CBIC) or a commitment to become certified following within 3 years of entry into the profession of Infection Control if not currently certified
- Recent experience in Infection Prevention and Control preferred
- Minimum three (3) years recent, related experience in a health care setting
- Advanced core knowledge related to specialty of microbiology and infection control i.e. anatomy, physiology, sterilization procedures and aseptic technique
- Advanced knowledge of policies and guidelines related to infection control
- Advanced ability to facilitate practice change
- Advanced ability to manage multiple priorities and high levels of stress amidst constant distraction
- Advanced ability to apply published research data to clinical practice
- Advanced ability to be self-motivated, self-directed, and results-oriented
- Advanced ability to effectively train and educate others and act as a role model/peer mentor
- Demonstrated formal presentation skills with an understanding of the application of adult learning principles
- Demonstrated ability to function independently and to work collaboratively as a team member
- Demonstrated computer proficiency in relevant software, internet, and literature searches
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Demonstrated excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills (both oral and written)
- Advanced ability to be flexible and adapt to change
- Demonstrated flexibility with hours of work is necessary, as rotating on-call for evenings, weekends, and holidays is required.

- Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to the principles of patient and family centred care
