This is a unique opportunity to work in Acute Medicine and Specialty Medicine which is comprised of four units: Acute Medicine, Respirology, Short Stay and Nephrology.
Acute Medicine is designed to treat and deliver care to a diverse adult patient population. There are a total of 36 beds, divided into 3 units of 12 beds each. One unit of 12 beds is designed to support those patients of a higher acuity who may require cardiac monitoring. Within Medicine B, there is also a 10 bed day unit that is designed to support the flow of admitted medicine patients from the Emergency Department up to the inpatient units.
The Respirology Unit is specially designed to treat and deliver care to patients with acute respiratory disease including those requiring non-invasive ventilation (BiPap). There are 12 beds.
The Short Stay Unit (SSU) provides care for Medicine patients whose anticipated length of stay is expected to be < 72 hrs. There are 12 beds.
The Nephrology Inpatient Unit is a specialty unit providing inpatient care to both Acute and Chronic Renal patients. As part of the Renal Program the nurses provide care within the Renal Professional Practice Model with an interdisciplinary and collaborative focus. Peritoneal dialysis is provided by the nurses both on the unit and within the hospital. There are 12 beds.
Temporary Full-Time
Rate of Pay: $39.07 per hour - $56.00 per hour
Hours of work: 37.5 hours of work
Qualifications
- Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers course: BLS-HCP(C) for which you can provide proof
- A minimum of one year of acute care nursing experience
- Previous experience with an acute adult medicine population preferred
- Knowledge of and experience with the General Medicine patient populations
- Current experience in Cardiac Monitoring, ECG Rhythm Recognition, Venipuncture and I.V. Initiation preferred
- Will be required to certify for unit specific procedures
- Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal, communication skills and high levels of initiative
- Proven ability to work independently as well as motivated to be an enthusiastic member of an interdisciplinary team
- Ability to function autonomously and to adapt to constantly changing unpredictable situations, and varying workload
- Effective conflict resolution skills
- Commitment to professional development
- Flexibility of schedule and able to work a variety of hours
- Demonstrated computer proficiency with Automated Clinical Systems
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
