An exceptional opportunity has arisen for a certified Orthoptist to join our inter-professional eye care team within the Ivey Eye Institute of St. Joseph's Health Care London.
To maintain a premier eye care center for Southwestern Ontario, we need special team-oriented individuals. We are seeing a certified Orthoptist who is enthusiastic about growing with our department and helping us provide exemplary community service and to maintain our renowned clinical, academic, and research program.
As an important member of the ophthalmic team, you will work as one of four Orthoptists supporting clinical care with our Pediatric Ophthalmologists, Neuro-Ophthalmologists, General Ophthalmologists by providing quality care to adults, children and their families. This role includes, but is not limited to: Orthoptic workups, Goldmann Visual Fields on children, and ongoing support for our Ophthalmology resident training program and medical students.
Although many patients will see the Ophthalmologist the same day, our Orthoptists also see patients independently for screening and ongoing treatment. Additionally, their services are used by Ophthalmologists in Southwestern Ontario to whom they provide a full Orthoptic workup including diagnosis and treatment plan.
This position reports to the Coordinator, Ivey Eye Institute of St. Joseph's Health Care London.
Essential Qualifications
- Certified Orthoptist (Member of Canadian Orthoptic Council)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Previous Orthoptist experience
- Knowledge of a Safety Culture in a Health Care Setting in compliance with the OHSA
- Flexibility and willingness to work as an effective team member
- Demonstrated excellent attendance
- Proficiency in French would be an asset
- Participation in Ophthalmic research
- Participation in the responsibilities of an academic ophthalmology program
- St. Joseph's Health Care London through its affiliation with Western University and Fanshawe College is a leading research and teaching hospital. As an employee of St. Joseph's you will be expected to engage in role related teaching and research activities in addition to any of your clinical duties
- Provide documentation you have received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine (primary series, boosters and/or XBB) OR one dose of XBB vaccine at least 14 days prior to the start date.
- Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox)
- Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing
