The Division of Cardiac Care is seeking a Nurse Practitioner to join our dynamic team.
The Nurse Practitioner is a self-directed advanced practice nurse prepared at the graduate and post-graduate level, who demonstrates a high level of autonomy working to scope, both independently and within a collaborative practice model. The NP in the Cardiac Care Program will report to the Director of Cardiac Care and will work collaboratively with cardiologists and members of the Cardiac Care program.
The Cardiology Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a highly trained and specialized healthcare professional who is responsible for providing advanced care to patients with cardiovascular diseases. This includes diagnosing and treating conditions such as heart failure, hypertension, arrythmias, coronary artery disease and pre and post cardiac procedure patients. The Cardiology NP works in collaboration with the Cardiologists in the inpatient setting and interacts closely with other healthcare providers to develop and implement individualized treatment plans for patients.
The Cardiology NP possesses advanced knowledge and skills in the management of complex cardiovascular conditions.
With a focus on service excellence and patient safety, principal responsibilities include:
- Direct Comprehensive Care: common patient issues include arrythmias (tachycardia and bradycardia), AF and stroke risk assessment, heart failure management, and preop assessments.
- Performs and documents a comprehensive health history and physical examination. The assessment includes psychosocial, spiritual and cultural assessments that may impact patient care needs.
- Identifies and orders diagnostic tests and procedures within the scope of their approval licensure and according to the established medical directives within the scope of practice of the NP.
- Collects, interprets and analyzes data from multiple sources and uses this data to formulate a medical diagnosis within the NPs scope of practice.
- Develops, implements and documents the plan of care for the patient.
- Prescribes pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies according to approved license or medical directives.
- Evaluate and revises plan of care based on response of patient/family.
- Coordinates the interdisciplinary plan of care for patients by liaising with members of the interdisciplinary team in order to facilitate the efficient movement of the patient through the healthcare system.
- Provides support for device staff and patients
- Perform cross-functional and/or other duties within the job classification as requested or assigned.
- The NP will support the educational needs of front-line staff through engagement with the Clinical Educators.
- Academic Leadership: The NP will use the protected time to improve practice standards for the service.
- The NP will attend relevant conferences and professional meetings. The NP will be prepared to present on relevant topics, particularly the learnings from protected time.
- The NP will share knowledge with the broader team as appropriate.

Regular Full-Time
Hourly pay: $58.15 - $79.95
Hours of Work: 37.50 hours per week

Qualifications
- Successful completion of a Master’s Degree in Nursing
- Current registration in the extended class and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Minimum of three (3) years recent related experience in an acute Cardiac Care environment; knowledge of cardiovascular diseases and conditions; ability to assess, diagnose and treat cardiovascular disorders; ability to recognize and manage acute cardiac events; ability to collect and interpret clinical data; ability to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment plans.
- Current member of the Nurse Practitioner's Association of Ontario (NPAO) or Registered Nurses Association of Ontario (RNAO)
- Mandatory Current Professional Liability Protection
- Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers course: BLS-HCP (C)
- Demonstrated experience and leadership in clinical practice, education, program development and research
- Expertise in functioning in an inter-disciplinary health care environment
- Recent experience in the treatment of patients with Arrhythmia preferred
- Ability to establish effective interpersonal relationships with colleagues and therapeutic relationships with patients and families
- Expertise in critical thinking, clinical problem solving, negotiation and conflict resolution
- Effective organizational, conceptual and leadership skills
- Ability to provide project management?skills to promote?evidence-based strategies and initiatives for Cardiac Care and ability to work in partnership with relevant LHSC staff and physicians
- Experience in/or understanding research, program development and evaluation
- Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal relations and communication skills, both oral and written
- Demonstrated excellence as a role model for clinical leadership
- Demonstrated experience with clinical teaching in an academic environment
- Advanced presentation skills including the application of adult learning principles, change theory and systems theory in a clinical environment
- Demonstrated excellence in clinical practice
- Self-directed and function independently
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
- Demonstrated skill in insight, self-awareness and self-management consistent with high emotional intelligence

- Eligible for cross-appointment to an academic institution

- Computer proficiency with Internet, Microsoft Office 365 including Outlook, Automated Clinical Systems and Virtual meeting platforms
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care

Immunization Requirements:
