Women's Care - OBCU

The Obstetrical Care Unit (OBCU) is a tertiary care unit consisting of an Antenatal Unit, Triage and Labour/Birthing Rooms.  The Registered Nurse (RN) working within the OBCU provides Patient and Family Centered Care to expectant women and their families.  The successful applicant will provide outpatient services/assessments as well as one-to-one labour support based on sound theoretical frameworks.  In addition, the RN cares for women with low risk and high-risk pregnancies as well as infants requiring minimal to intensive care.  The RN will work with women and their families to identify strengths and collaborates with other multidisciplinary team members to coordinate care.

Regular Part-Time

Hours of work:     24 hours per week

Rate of Pay:        $39.07 per hour - $56.00 per hour

Qualifications

 
  • Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers course:  BLS-HCP(C)
  • Minimum six (6) months recent, related perinatal nursing experience in high-risk antenatal care, intrapartum care, or maternal and newborn care
  • Successful completion of NRP Certification and Fetal Health Surveillance course or willingness to complete courses within a specified time frame as required by the Hospital
  • Successful completion of Breast Feeding course preferred
  • Successful completion of Perinatal Nursing course preferred
  • CNA Perinatal Certification preferred
  • Demonstrated skills in patient teaching and assessment including nursing knowledge base
  • Ability to recognize own feelings, express them fully and constructively manage own feelings in challenging and emotionally charged situations
  • Ability to express ideas clearly, confidently and directly and work through conflicts and differences in a respectful way
  • Ability to understand the feelings, concerns and needs of other people, demonstrate care and interest towards them and establish and maintain productive relationships
  • Ability to stay effective and resilient when dealing with adverse circumstances and multiple demands
  • Ability to demonstrate an optimistic disposition toward new experiences and change in general
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency with Automated Clinical Systems
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC's vision, purpose and values
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
