Salary Range: $32.66 - $40.83 /hour
Temporary position, anticipated to extend until October 27, 2029, subject to the availability of work with the possibility of extension.
Lawson Health Research Institute is one of Canada's largest hospital-based research institutes. Lawson is seeking a Chemistry Lab Technician for its Cyclotron & Radiochemistry Facility.
The successful candidate will become a key part of a large research/clinical group working in a hospital environment. Duties will include production and quality control of positron emitting radiopharmaceuticals, i.e. set-up, operation, maintenance of production equipment, and documentation of all quality control processes.
Responsibilities will include:
- Produce, dispense and package radiopharmaceuticals (operation of cyclotron and radiochemistry modules)
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory commitments, including GMP, radiation safety, corporate policies and procedures
- Perform quality control of radiopharmaceuticals using analytical equipment and chemical tests per standard operating procedures
- Participate and ensure execution of aseptic techniques, including sterility and pyrogen testing
- Apply CNSC rules, regulations and procedures to ensure professional and safe working practices are followed
- Maintain inventory systems and all applicable documents and records
- Provide support in operation of cyclotron, chemistry modules, QC equipment and associated software
- Observe operating parameters and participate in troubleshooting issues
- Maintain a clean, orderly, clutter-free and safe work environment, including a well-organized production and workflow area
- Due to the nature of the work, early morning shifts and occasional night coverage are required
It should be understood that the hours of work will reflect the demand for positron emitting radiopharmaceuticals and are subject to change. The Chemistry Lab Technician will be required to work shifts beginning early in the morning and, on occasion, night coverage.
Essential Qualifications
- Completion of a scientific College Degree or a BSc University Degree – a focus or experience in chemistry is preferred.
- Candidate must consent to working in a safe, but radioactive, environment
- Familiarity with operation of HPLC, GC, TLC, pH meter, pyrogen testing, sterility testing, dose calibrator
- Ability to operate complex equipment
- Experience with SOPs in a GMP environment
- Demonstrated computer skills in MicroSoft Office Suite (Excel and Word) and e-mail
- Communication skills with a proven ability to interpret information and provide and/or follow complex instructions
- Ability to work independently and as an effective team member
- Detail oriented
- Knowledge of a Safety Culture in a Health Care Setting in compliance with the OHSA.
- Provide documentation you have received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine or proof of one dose and a signed commitment to receive a second dose within a specified timeframe, (primary series, boosters and/or XBB) OR one dose of XBB vaccine at least 14 days prior to the start date
- Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox)
- Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing
