Parkwood Institute Mental Healthcare is an organization that provides specialized mental health care to individuals living with mental illnesses on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. In addition to providing direct care to individuals living with mental illness, the organization is also actively involved in the education of future clinicians and in advancing the research knowledge base. Our work is guided by a recovery- oriented philosophy of care as well as the utilization of treatment and rehabilitation interventions that are based on the best available evidence of their effectiveness to assist individuals in pursuing their life goals. We believe in supporting both the individual and their family/friends throughout their recovery journey.
Adult Ambulatory Services provides outpatient services to clients requiring tertiary level care. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to provide comprehensive support/rehabilitation/treatment to clients with serious mental illness using the principles of client centered care, within the context of an interdisciplinary team, frequently in conjunction with community partners.
Essential Qualifications
- Valid registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Valid CPR certificate
- Well developed assessment, consultative practice and evaluation skills in the care of clients with severe and persistent mental illness
- Good working knowledge of nursing principles, theory and legislation and of the nursing care needs of clients with severe and persistent mental illness
- Knowledge of a Safety Culture in a Health Care Setting in compliance with the OHSA
- Must be capable of establishing positive interpersonal relationships and able to work as an effective team member
- Demonstrated ability to apply and document the nursing process
- Ability to relate therapeutically with clients and their families
- Demonstrated leadership in the initiation, coordination of, and participation in team/family conferences and clinical activities
- In depth knowledge of major mental illness from a biopsychosocial perspective
- Knowledge of the Mental Health Act and other relevant legislation
- Knowledge of community resources
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent organizational, critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Experience in the development of teaching materials and the teaching of clients, family, and caregivers
- Experience working in mental health
- Crisis intervention skills
- Travel within the catchment area is required
- Knowledge of and skills in specialized therapeutic interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
- Minimum 2 years experience working with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness, preferably in an outpatient and/or community setting.
- Proficiency in French would be an asset

- Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps rubella, varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, COVID-19 and influenza.
- Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing
