Environmental Safety

 

The Safety Assistant provides support to the Safety Analysts and the Occupational Health and Safety Services Team. The Safety Assistant will ensure that the Internal Responsibility System is maintained, review incident reports with area leadership, and assist in determining appropriate corrective action, staff education and training, policy review, and communicate policy changes to stakeholders. 

 

Temporary Full-Time

 

Rate of Pay:       $27.54 per hour - $34.42 per hour

 

Duration:             up to February 2026

Qualifications

 

As the ideal candidate, you have:

  • Successful completion of an Occupational Health and Safety Certificate
  • Previous experience in Occupational Health and Safety preferred
  • Demonstrated proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access, OneNote)
  • Demonstrated basic skills with Parklane, PeopleSoft, MSDS and AEMS
  • Demonstrated ability to provide quality customer service
  • Proficient ability to develop effective working relationships
  • Demonstrated proficient ability to establish and maintain communication lines necessary for the promotion of Health and Safety Programs
  • Basic knowledge of Occupational Hygiene Equipment
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrated in dealing with a wide variety of contacts and sensitive issues
  • Proficient knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Legislation and policy and procedures; Joint Health and Safety Certification preferred
  • Proficient problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated proficient ability to organize and prioritize work while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC?s vision, purpose and values
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
