Western University is seeking a University Veterinarian to lead our Animal Care and Veterinary Services. As a visionary leader, the University Veterinarian will provide high-quality animal health and welfare through our state-of-the-art facilities and team of dedicated professionals, while ensuring protocols and processes are managed appropriately.

 

The University Veterinarian will develop and nurture relationships both internally and externally to identify opportunities to deliver and enhance services and optimize resources, leading to excellence in animal care and veterinary services which support enhanced research success for animal-based scientists at Western and the city-wide affiliate research community.

About You

As the ideal candidate, you are a visionary leader and possess a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, eligible for licensure from the College of Veterinarians of Ontario, and have postgraduate training in laboratory animal medicine. If you are an international applicant you must have a passing score on the North American Veterinary Licensing Exam (NAVLE).

 

You have experience in clinical and compliance assurance veterinary services in a research environment, comprehensive application of animal medicine to a variety of common laboratory species, as well as extensive experience in clinical laboratory animal and comparative medicine.

 

You are proficient in veterinary diagnosis, treatment, surgical and anesthetic procedures (preferably in a multi-species research environment), and you have experience with health monitoring and disease control programs and strategies, complemented by a developed sense of judgment and risk management. You have influential interpersonal skills that enable you to be an effective leader of teams, as well as organizational skills to enhance your project management abilities. Finally, you have the ability to work within a flexible schedule.
