Physician Assistant - Department of Surgery - Thoracic Surgery

Reporting to the Clinical Leader/Manager and under the direction and supervision of a registered Physician, and in accordance with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario's policy on delegation, the Physician Assistant (PA) provides medical care to patients based on instituted medical Directives.  This includes selected assessment, treatment and disposition functions.

The Physician Assistant will be based at the Victoria Hospital Site in the Division of Thoracic Surgery. The Thoracic Surgeons at this hospital specialize in Minimally Invasive Surgery, Cancer Surgery, and Esophageal Surgery. The PA will function as a vital part of our collaborative team of health care workers in a surgeon-extender role. Their role will include, but will not be limited to, day-to-day inpatient care, outpatient clinic assessments and follow-up visits, and assisting in the Operating Room. With the Division of Thoracic Surgery's focus on education and training, this PA role provides the opportunity for a motivated individual to develop their potential as a leader and teacher in this Division. There is also potential for involvement in many of the research projects that are ongoing at our facility.

Regular Full-time

Rate of Pay:       $52.16 per hour - $65.20 per hour

Hours of Work:   37.5 Hours per week

Qualifications

 
  • Four (4) year Undergraduate Degree in Health Sciences (Physician Assistant) and completion of 2-year Physician Assistant program
  • Current Registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO)
  • Current BLS for Healthcare Providers course: BLS-HCP(C) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification for which you can provide proof upon request
  • ATLS certification preferred
  • Advanced ability to perform in stressful and critical/emergency situations
  • Advanced flexibility and ability to adapt to change
  • Strong critical thinking, decision-making skills, and analytical and conceptual skills
  • Advanced organizational skills
  • Advanced communication skills (both verbal and written) and facilitation/presentation skills
  • Ability to use Microsoft and Windows based technologies
  • Demonstrated ability to provide principals of patient family centered care
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC's Vision, Purpose, and Values
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis.
