Radiation Therapy & Physics

Reporting to the Manager, Radiation Operations with accountabilities to the Chief Medical Physicist and the Radiation Safety Officer at the Verspeeten Family Cancer Centre, the Physics Associate performs a variety of physics related support activities including quality assurance measurements on radiation therapy and related apparatus, equipment commissioning, radiation protection procedures, measurements and calculations to support the safe delivery of radiation therapy to patients. Physics Associates train and supervise Physics Assistants (students), to perform quality assurance measurements and participate in research and development projects.

Reporting to the Manager, Radiation Operations with accountabilities to the Chief Medical Physicist and the Radiation Safety Officer at the Verspeeten Family Cancer Centre the Physics Associate performs a variety of physics related support activities including quality assurance measurements on radiation therapy and related apparatus, radiation protection procedures, measurements and calculations to support the safe delivery of radiation therapy to patients. Physics Associates train and supervise Physics Assistants (students) to perform quality assurance measurements and participate in research and development projects.

Temporary Full-Time

Duration:  Up to 18 months

Hours of Work: 37.50 hours per week

Rate of Pay:     $46.79 per hour - $58.48 per hour

Qualifications

 
  • Successful completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Physics or Engineering, Master's Degree preferred
  • Minimum of five (5) years of recent, relevant work experience
  • Demonstrated ability to be organized, accountable, responsible, and proficient in radiation safety training
  • Knowledge of computer application software, including but not limited to Microsoft Suite, Python, MATLab, LabView, Visual Basic, and C++

  • Demonstrated experimental dexterity and mathematical proficiency with excellent analytical skills
  • Ability to deliver precise and accurate work
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to take initiative with a high level of safety awareness and accountability 
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency with Automated Clinical Systems
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centered care
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
  • Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC's Vision, Purpose, and Values
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
