Physics and Engineering - The Verspeeten Family Cancer Centre
The Verspeeten Family Cancer Centre is inviting applications for one of three permanent full time Medical Physicists to enhance our radiation oncology service. The Verspeeten Family Cancer Centre is committed to providing excellent clinical service, leadership in oncology research, and education in radiation oncology, radiation therapy and medical physics. The Verspeeten Family Cancer Centre is a state-of-the-art facility treating over 4000 patients per year featuring seven Varian TrueBeam linear accelerators, two with HD-MLC and two VisionRT AlignRT systems, one Varian IX, ARIA record and verify, one Accuray Tomotherapy treatment machine, and one XStrahl Orthovoltage unit. We will be installing our first Varian Ethos linear accelerator in the Winter of 2025. Our primary treatment planning is Varian Eclipse, with access to RaySearch Raystation. CT Simulation is performed using two Canon Large Bore Exceed CT Scanners (first in North America), with access to Diagnostic MR and PET/CT for multi-modality simulation. The Verspeeten Family Cancer Centre also features a very active and progressive brachytherapy program using a Varian GammaMed Plus HDR afterloader for gynecological cancers and prostate and iodine-125 LDR implants for prostate. Current areas of research include but are not restricted to: IMRT/VMAT optimization, adaptive radiotherapy, stereotactic radiotherapy/surgery, motion management, surface guided radiotherapy, and brachytherapy. The successful candidate will join a dynamic group of 14 experienced Medical Physicists, 13 Medical Dosimetrists, and a strong technical support group of 5 Electronics Technologists, 3 Medical Physics Associates, an IT Administrator, and a Physics Software Technical Specialist. The candidate will be expected to participate in all aspects of clinical physics service as well as teaching, and research and development. In addition, the Verspeeten Family Cancer Centre houses a CAMPEP accredited Medical Physics Residency training 3 residents, a Radiation Oncology residency program with 10 residents and participates in the education of the Radiation Therapy Program through the Michener Institute or Mohawk. Overall, the Verspeeten Family Cancer Centre provides an ideal environment for Medical Physicists to develop both clinically and academically, and to integrate into an outstanding team of professionals collectively providing evidence-based care to oncology patients.
Regular Full-Time
Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week
Rate of Pay: $67.47 per hour - $88.24 per hour
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Physics or a related field
- Completion of Medical Physics Residency, preferably accredited by CAMPEP
- Two or more years of related clinical physics experience
- Membership or Fellowship in the Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine preferred
- Experience with both HDR and LDR brachytherapy would be considered an asset
- High degree of interest, enthusiasm, and commitment to patient care and research
- Ability to supervise students of technical staff
- Effective teaching ability
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to perform research and development in Clinical Physics
- Demonstrated computer proficiency with clinical systems
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to the principles of patient and family centred care
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to patient and staff safety
- Demonstrated practice and commitment to LHSC's vision, purpose, and values
- Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
Immunization Requirements:
Before beginning employment at LHSC, all new hires will be required to:
- Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, Tetanus/ Diphtheria/Polio; Meningitis;
- Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing (two step);
